ABOUT LOCKMAN

In February 2005 two rock'n'rollers, Hermo and Taito Palvanen were tipped off of each other by a mutual friend. Taito has played drums in such groups as Sivulliset, Livin' Drops, Machinegun Macbeth, Ferryboat Family ja Bird In the Bush. Hermo's career as a singer and guitarist had started in Oulu, in Xtaasi ja later in Helsinki in a band called Swamp.

These two not-so-young, but clearly fresh fellows had in mind a new rock'n'roll band, where primitive and rootsy rock is mixed with crooked attitude and indie-aesthetics. The result would be modern, but original sound combined with great songs and interesting lyrics.

At first Hermo could dig from a large collection of his old masterpieces, but soon new songs turned up and the guitar-drums-line-up developed into a bloodthirsty outfit of raw power. In the end of the spring 2005 the guys did their first demo with the help of a reknown finnish indie-veterans Mother Goose. It worked, but something was missing. After all a base-player would be needed to make Lockman the outfit guys had in mind. However, although there were lots of candidates, no one quite appropriate turned out.

Instead, Hermo and Taito put an ad to an internet-forum for a guitarist. Markku "Feggy" Roinila was not able to resist it since the ad craved for a guitarist who liked Tom Verlaine, Robert Quine and Marc Ribot. "My all-time favourite guitarists!", he sighed to himself and proceeded to give the guys a call. As the leading idea of Lockman was to combine Bo Diddley and Television, Feggy (ex-bands include Brian Jones Swimming Club, Popheads, The Lunatunes and Tampere) could not hope for a better band for himself.

The bassman is called Jean "Pissbelius" Ramsay and he's an artist of life, not to mention of folk- and country music (known as Jean Magnus William Ramsay (JMWR). He's also a talented bass-player and singer. His other projects include Love Death Club and Disappointments. We are proud to have him aboard.

In October 2008 there was a change in line-up. Jean step aside to concentrate on his other band, The Spoonshiners, but may feature as an acoustics all around real master. The new bass-player is Tomi Nuotio who also plays in a famous indie veteran band, The Can Can Heads.

Our first official record is a split vinyl single with the Protestants, called Spiritual Bread. 17th of December 2008 our first proper ep was released. It is called Turn Out The Lights, consisting of four songs and you can get it from Plastic Passion (in a cd format) and check out the songs plus buy them in mp3-format from The Ground.

Update 31. 1. 2010

Hello folks, we have a new bass player. He's called Kim Mansnerus and some photos are available soon. He has played in such bands as Bird in the Bush and Etelä and is proficient in both guitar and bass. Tomi decided that his heart is more with his other band, The Can Can Heads and we'll hope all the best for him in the future!
